Density: 170 000 knots per square meter, totally ~over 1 million knots

Weaving period: four months

Colors: madder red, midnight blue, variegated green, light green, Persian blue, yellow, old purple/mauve, maroon, ivory, dark brown, light brown.

Dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), indigo, pomegranate skins, walnut husks, natural brown sheep wool, natural ivory sheep wool

 Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, natural ivory wool warps and ivory wefts (two shots)

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Pile height: 0.6cm

Inscriptions: 1438 (=2017 weaving date), Baku, tamga (tribal seal) of Afshar tribe
Weavers: Rana, Layla and Zahra

Handwoven in Azerbaijan

Design: The dark indigo field scattered with various polychrome floral and geometric minor motifs and animal, human being figures around the central stepped medallion, in an ivory ground polychrome 'birds on a tree' main border, inner 'stars' and Z shaped small dragon motif minor borders



The serrated/saw-edged medallions (flame, gubba, gubpa) have been related by some authors to ancient Egyptian and Persian Royal insignia.
