Kuba (Quba) Zeyve Rug in a dark brown ground


Size: 151x235cm

Size (ft): 5'0"x7'8"

Area: 3.54 m2

Density: 165 000 knots per square meter, totally ~ 600 000 knots

Colors (16): dark brown (undyed), ivory (undyed), cerulean blue, midnight blue, royal blue, light green, dark green, soft madder red, ivory, yellow, old purple/mauve, obergine, maroon, beige, madder red, light brown, orange brown.

Dyes: 100% natural dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), indigo, pomegranate skins, onion skins, walnut husks

Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots). 1cm of flatwoven kilim ends at both sides. - wool on wool

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Pile height: 0.5cm

Ends: five rows of decorative knotted meshwork


Weaving Period:

Handwoven in Azerbaijan

Dark brown the field densely scattered with hooked tribal and floral motifs around five polychrome stepped 'Seljuk' medallions, in an ivory crab rosette border between diagonal striped "Pakhlava" (Traditional Azeri layered pastry with walnut filling), garmagly and ulduz (star)motif minor borders and outer barber-pole stripes.

The medallion design is related to the early small pattern Holbein motif:
