Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots). 1cm of flatwoven kilim ends at both sides. - wool on wool Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical) Pile height: Ends: five rows of decorative knotted meshwork Inscriptions: weaving date Weaver: Leyla, Gunay Weaving Period: 4 months Handwoven in Azerbaijan Design: The ivory field with two large shaded brick-red hooked gabled medallions containing angular floral and geometric motifs and similar panels flanking a central similar indigo stellar panel, similar part-panels above and below, two half red medallions flanked on the diagonals by shaped aqua green hooked panels containing similar motifs, further minor maroon and peach arrowhead shaped panels within the field, in a golden main border of hooked hexagonal C gul motif linked to zig zag pattern minor borders. Star Kazakhs are among the rarest Caucasian carpets. Some antique examples once held world records for 19th century Caucasian rugs in auctions. |
