Antique Hadji Jallili  Tabriz rug, Azerbaijan, NW Iran, 11'3" x 17'5"

This consummately crafted oversize from the revered Hadji Jallili workshop stands among the most refined classical carpets we have ever encountered. The great dexterity and tremendous presence that fill this masterwork demonstrate an extremely seldom found aesthetic and technical virtuosity. Sheltered by an elegant arch, an incredibly nuanced “Tree of Life” motif emerges from the deep shade of a saturated indigo ground. Cypress trees, perched birds and lifelike gazelles inhabit the field’s lower edge, while stout branches and halved vase motifs contribute their own arboreal vinery.
