Antique Moghan (Mughan) rug, late 19th century, Azerbaijan


Lot: 159
Moghan: A rare Moghan with a light blue field that is darker at the top, and densely filled with hooked diamonds. The central axis is accentuated by larger hooked diamonds united into a patterned bar by a double contour line. The weaver has used a great number of colours, employing them deliberately to create an impression of constant change. This beautiful collector’s piece was acquired by Ulrich Schurmann, the well-known Cologne gallery owner, in the Sixties. – Minimally reduced ends, original selvedges. Good condition.
