1289 AH = 1871 AD dated Kuba or Baku Soumak carpet, Eastern Azerbaijan

Size: m. 2,04 x 1,20 - 6’8” x 3’11”

A Sumak of unusual size and design, with a rare saffron yellow background and good old patina.

The field’s multicoloured blossom design seems hiding minor delicate motives. Among these it is possible to notice a few swastikas (of old Indo-Chinese origin), weather-cocks and zig zag lines along the vertical sides.

The nice border is based on a calyces and hooked flowers pattern for the central band and a double medachil for the inside and outside frame.
