Antique Caucasian Kazak rug, 19th century, NW Azerbaijan


Lot: 80
Kazak: A colourful Kazak with a met hane design: like many Talish rugs, the red field is undecorated and separated from the extra wide border area by a light blue band of reciprocal trefoils. In this carpet, the large blossoms with four diagonal 'arms' ("crab" designs) in the white-ground main border are the most striking feature. Original sides and upper finish, which retains the braided warp ends, restored lower finish. Very good overall condition.
