Buta - one of the richest ornamental elements of Azerbaijan's decorative arts. Buta is frequently used for expression of the fire, flame images. The buta (boteh, puta, or bute) is a shrub that looks like a thistle and used to kindle fireplace and tendir (oven made of clay in a hole in the earth). This plant burns for a long time and was useful for heating the houses. If you burn a buta, each branch burns separately as a candle and a flame rises from it - reminding the shape of the ornamental buta.
