General/Historical Information: In Azeri language shahar means city. They named it Guba shahar, because this carpet has been made only in the city center of Guba. The city is located on the Gudyal Chay river. It is one of the most ancient cities of Caucasian Region.

The old carpet makers also call this carpet as "Gudu" or "Gulistan"

Art Analysis: The main composition of central part consists of a few gols - medallions that lined up vertically one after another. They call this kind of medallion "turunj", which was abundantly used in decorative art of middle ages. The central part of Guba Shahar carpets are called achiq yerli.

Comments: There is an antique sample of Quba Shahar carpet in The State Museum of Azerbaijan Carpet and Applied Art.
