Pile rug fragment, Near East, 800-900s. Found in Fustat. Nationalmuseum, Stockholm

 

Size: 15 x 21 cm

NM 217/1939

 

Warp: 3 ply, S-twist of one thread of wool and two of cotton

 

Weft: cotton yarn, one ply, z-spun, 5-6 threads in every weft

 

Pile: wool yarn inserted in the same shed as the weft, pulled out in loops, later cut.

 

Knots: 18V x 40H
