Antique Caucasian Shirvan "Akstafa" prayer rug, Southern Shirvan Region, Salyan (Saliani) District, Azerbaijan.

Akstafa Prayer Rug  - A design of diagonal stripes decorated with birds, “S”-shaped abstract dragons and small octagons filled with stars covers the entire field, i.e. it does not end under the prayer arch as seen in other examples. Steep as a tower, the right-angled arch is visually separated from the field by the dark blue area it encloses. A characteristic feature of Akstafa rugs is the large hooked ornaments in their main borders. – Reselvedged on both sides, repiled ends, slight signs of age and wear.
