Antique Serapi rug, Azerbaijan, NW Iran, 12 ft x 16 ft 06 in (3.66 m x 5.03 m)

This Heriz-Serapi carpet features a bold octofoil medallion with weighted palmette pendants, which are inset in a stepped lozenge and decorated with a number of inlaid patterns. Hooked spandrels and a classic sienna, indigo and ivory color palette accompanied by rare celadon-green accents complete the carpet field. Charming vinescroll guardbands and reciprocating turtle motifs with accentuated legs decorate the traditional borders of this Heriz-Serapi carpet.
