Antique Derbend long rug, 19th century

DERBENT RUG, nineteenth century
Rugs from the Derbent district are often considered the least well made of the weavings from the eastern Caucasus region- but they can make up in charm what they lack in technical excellence. Despite the dark tonality, this rather whimsical "vase" Derbent is remarkable far its color intensity.
