A prayer rug based on the design of the 13th century Seljuk rug fragment kept at Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

Area: 1.71 m2

Density: 170 000 knots per square meter, totally ~290 000 knots

Colors (8): yellow, red, midnight blue, royal blue, sky blue, dark brown, ivory, maroon.

Dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), indigo, pomegranate skins, walnut husks, natural dark brown sheep wool, natural ivory sheep wool.

Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots). 1cm of flatwoven kilim ends at both sides. - wool on wool

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Pile height: 0.6 cm

Ends: single knotted fringes

Inscriptions: tamga (tribal seal) of Qiniq tribe

Weaver: Vasila

Weaving Period: 3 (three) months

Handwoven in Azerbaijan

Design: The design of the rug is based on a Seljuk carpet fragment from the 13th century, now housed in the Museum of Turkic and Islamic Arts in Istanbul (inventory no. 685); the design is transformed into a prayer rug with the addition of a mihrab typical of that period.
