Shirvan Kabistan rug CODE: SHRKBS12 Size (metric): 128x181cm Size (ft): 4'2"x5'11" Area: 2.31 m2 Density: 160 000 knots per square meter, totally ~370 000 knots Weaving period: 3 months Colors: madder red, Persian blue, midnight blue, yellow, variegated light green, dark obergine, dark green, ivory, dark brown, light brown, gold brown Dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), indigo, pomegranate skins, walnut husks, natural brown sheep wool, natural ivory sheep wool Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, wool warps (natural ivory and light brown twist) and two shots of ivory wool wefts Weaver: Arzu Handwoven in Azerbaijan Inscriptions: dated 1438 (2017), in commemoration of Shah Akhsitan (Shirvanshah king who moved the capital of Shirvan from Shamakhi to Baku in 1192). An ancient "ant" (three dots) and öz tamga (svastika) symbols as well as the whirling wheel (fortune's wheel) motif are placed between the flower heads in the minor border. Design: The ivory field with a serrated lozenge lattice enclosing stylised floral sprays and flowerheads, in a light madder red border of polychrome angular S-motifs between floral head stripes. The weaver-artist filled the classic latticework pattern with heart shaped blossoms and flower head motifs. |
