Design: Three conjoined sky blue and golden yellow diamond medallions
surrounded by madder red gubbas (dome) are ranged the length of an azure
field sparsely embellished with green-ivory cruciform-patterned rectangles;
a polychrome interlock bird design fills the golden main border, flanked
between red and dark blue floral-repeat minor borders. A striking ‘op art’
effect in the crisp medallion designs is pleasingly balanced by the
attractive range of colours deployed in the main interlock border. Latif
Kerimov attributes an item with a closely related border approach and a
similar conjoined-medallion field to the village of Arjiman in Shirvan
district of Azerbaijan. |
