Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots). 1cm of flatwoven kilim ends at both sides. - wool on wool Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical) Pile height: 0.5 cm Ends: single knot Inscriptions: 1431 (weaving date), tamga (tribal seal) of Karakoyunlu and Afshar tribes Weaver: Leyla, Fatima, Aygun Weaving Period: 5 months Handwoven in Azerbaijan Design: The design is based on mid 19th century Bakhshaish carpets with the so called Minakhani design. The design derives from Safavid Period Herati design carpets. Two fish is floating in the main border between the floral palmettes. The general concept of the design here is the depiction of the nature where the nomads lived. Small tents are seen at the top and bottom of the central field to symbolize a nomadic lifestyle of the local people. The author of the design is Vugar Dadashov. |
