Antique Qashqai mihrab rug with flowering plant and star-shaped blossom motifs on a midnight blue ground, probably Shekarlu tribe

Size (ft): 3'6"x6'4"

Structure: wool pile, ivory wool warps and wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: This Qashqa’i rug displays a rare field design of star-shaped blossoms and flowering plants placed on a midnight blue ground; the red spandrels are separated from the field by stepped diagonals decorated with bird’s heads. Two borders of equal width contain small diamonds. Good overall condition, some repairs, original finishes all around. All natural colors.
