Antique Karabagh rug with a latticed midnight blue field

Age: late 19th century

Size: 127x259cm

Size (ft): 4'1"x8'5"

Structure: wool pile, wool warps (dark brown and ivory yarns twisted together - "salt & pepper") and red wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: A delicate diamond lattice covers the entire surface of the dark blue field. It is filled with flowering shrubs. Ivory ground main border carries a crab motif - between outer octagonal star and inner flowerhead/star motif minor border. Beautiful natural colors - no bad dyes. Condition: scattered small repairs, good pile, all four sides incomplete (1-2cm), selvages rebound.
