Antique Aksaray Gelveri yastik rug, Central Anatolia, mid 19th century

Size (ft): 1'9"x3'1"

Description: This antique yastik (cushion cover) from Gelveri village in Aksaray region of Central Anatolia has a diamond shaped central medallion flanked by four large sickle shaped "saz" leaves with serrated outlines. Opening outwards, these angled shapes are drawn in the angular style of village weavings and embellished with an interior vine. The ends display a panel with a row of pentagonal forms known as "lappets." The design takes its origin from of 16-17th century Ottoman luxury velvet textiles called "chatma".

Good pile condition. Beautiful colors including apricot, coral, maroon.
