Rug with a ‘Mother Goddess’ figure

Symmetrically knotted wool pile on a wool foundation
A rare and unusual piece, this rug is characterised by a central stylised
element derived the Mother Goddess motif. Six-pointed stars contained within
octagons, which also decorate the apricot border, punctuate the dark brown
field. Weavings from the villages around Konya sometimes show design
elements taken from the iconography of kilims and often juxtapose these
motifs with Turkic-style repeat patterns, as in the case of this example and
certain yatak rugs.
