Zaqatala is situated in north western Azerbaijan. The district has been inhabited by multinational groups for a long time, thus the designs of the rugs woven in the area show different ethnic influences. In this small-format example, the field design is drawn in the geometric style of flatweaves. Offset rows of closely spaced hexagons, each enclosing a hooked rectangle, have been arranged into horizontal lines by colour change. The wide white border displays two rows of stylised facing birds. – Slight signs of age and wear, good overall condition.
