Antique Derbend or Southern Hillside Kuba rug, 2nd half 19th century

This rug has an all-wool foundation and sides overcast in blue cotton. In his 1973 catalogue, Peter Bausback attributed it to Daghestan, which is a plausible alternative. This is an attractive piece; note the swastikas within the octagons along the bottom border. Probably second half of the 19th century. 99 x 160 cm, published Ian Bennett's Oriental Rugs Volume I, plate 443
