Kuba Zeyve long rug in a madder red ground

Density: 170 000 knots per square meter, totally ~ 390 000 knots

Colors: yellow, midnight blue, cerulean blue, green, dark brown, light brown, mauve/purple, madder red, ivory, maroon.

Dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), indigo, pomegranate skins, onion skins, natural brown sheep wool, natural ivory sheep wool.

Materials: Handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots)

Ends:
bundled knots

Inscriptions:
Zeyve, 1438 (=2017>weaving date), the word "Arinch" (means "peace") in ancient Orkhon Yenisey scripts, the tamga of Afshar tribe

Handwoven in Azerbaijan

Design:
On the madder red central field, five star medallions (göls) are arranged on the vertical axis. In the remaining part of the field, various tribal motifs, samovars, pitchers, bird figures, eternal knot motifs, memling guls etc. are integrated.

The medallion design is related to the early small pattern 'Holbein' motif:
