Based on the XVIII century Azerbaijan 'Animal Combat' design carpet

Weaving period: four months

Colors: red, yellow, ivory, aqua green, sky blue, old purple, midnight blue, dark brown, cinnamon, apricot, maroon, light green, lawn green, chartreuse green

Dyes: 100% natural dyes: madder, weld (Reseda Luteola), woad/indigo, onion skins, cochineal, pomegranate skins, walnut husks, natural brown sheep wool, natural ivory sheep wool

Materials: all wool - handcarded and handspun wool for pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts (two shots)

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Weaver's name: Nazli

Inscriptions: The word "Oghuz" in ancient Orkhon Yenisei alphabet, the tamga (tribal seal) of Afshar tribe, 1441 (weaving date 2020)

Handwoven in Azerbaijan

Design: A dark blue medallion outlined in yellow, and from which lancet-like leaves spring, dominates the brilliant red ground. Near the four corners, can be seen vertical animal fights, similar to the horizontal animal representations found in Safavid carpets. There is a blue and red flower-and-tendril border on a yellow ground. There is a human face depicted in the middle of the central medallion, symbolizing an Oghuz tribal man (this detail is added by Vugar Dadashov and not existed in the original design).

The original XVIII century rug was first published by Ulrich Schurmann as plate 38 in his Bilderbuch fuer Teppichsammler in 1960 and again in 1974 as plate 93 in his ‘Caucasian Rugs’.
