Antique Tree Kazak rug with a Turtle medallion, dated 1277 (1861) in two places

Code: KZTL01

Age: Second half 19th century

Size: 160x240cm

Size (ft): 5'2"x7'10"

Structure: wool pile, dark wool warps and soft red wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: The medium madder red field with a vertical rows of "Tysbagha" (Turtle) medallion with two ivory trees on top and bottom of it in a green border of polychrome cross and diamond shaped motifs between reciprocal saw-tooth guard stripes. Various tribal motifs, animal, bird and human being figures, rams horns, octagons with cross-shaped Shahsevan guls, small  diamonds, flower heads are scattered through the field.

Good natural colors. Free arrangement of the motifs in the field and borders are the sign of early production. The rug is unique considering the fact that it is the only known example with a Turtle medallion.

Dated 1277 (1861) in two places.
