Antique Sunburst Karabagh rug (so called "Chelaberd" or "Adler Kazak")

Age: ~1880-90

Size
: 148x210cm

Size (ft): 4'10"x6'10"

Structure: wool pile, ivory wool warps and dark brown wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: The shaded madder red field with an archaic-monumental radiating multicoloured sunburst / 'eagle' medallion, in an ivory 'crab' motive border. One of the most renowned of antique Caucasian rug styles. Good condition, silky pile, both ends restored, several small repairs, selvages rebound. A rare collector’s piece.
